Lyon Home Gallery: Spring Home 2009
There may not be a grand foyer or imported stone columns in Jess and Kristi Lyon’s home, but there is plenty of style, and it all makes the home a perfect spot for the couple and their three children.
Financial analyst Suze Orman always ends her television show by saying, “People first, then money, then things.” It appears that the Lyon family, who live in the Hidden Springs subdivision in Rogersville, were paying particular attention to her advice. Placing a high priority on family, Kristi and Jess Lyon built their 4,800-square-foot home thoughtfully and on a strict budget. And the family will certainly get good use of it. “We’ll pretty much live in it the rest of our lives,” Kristi says.
The couple met at Evangel University and, besides a short stint in Kansas City while Jess attended medical school (he is currently an urgent-care physician), they have called the Ozarks home. Kristi worked as a teacher in the Ozark school system until they had their first child. They now have three children, 12-year-old Chandler, eight-year-old Olivia and five-year-old Tyler.
It took the Lyons six months to build their five-bedroom, four-and-a-half bath home. The first step was to hire a draftsman to draw up the plans. Kristi envisioned a home with the kitchen and family room at its heart, and that is what the couple achieved. The warm and inviting room boasts poplar cabinets by LM Woodworking in Carthage and an open plate rack that is used daily. The cultured-marble backsplash and granite countertops add textural interest.
