417 Idea Home: Take Two
You followed the first 417 Idea Home to completion, and now our second 417 Idea Home venture is nearly done.
It was nine months ago when more than 2,000 people toured the first-ever 417 Idea Home. This project was the first of its kind for 417 Magazine and 417 Home, and all in all it was a success. Sure, we traveled quite the bumpy road on the way to the home’s completion (hitting rock on site, record-breaking rain falls during the final months of construction… we could go on), but in the end, a jaw-dropping 10,000-square-foot home was born.
When all was said and done, we were able to donate more than $12,000 to two local charities, and we fed our readers some top-notch creations from the best and brightest suppliers, designers, architects and builders in 417-land.
Now, not even an entire year later, we’re working on 417 Idea Home number 2. (Pretty quick, eh?) But don’t assume this one will have even more imported cantera stone columns—things are a little different this time around.

About the House
The last idea home was worth approximately $3.2 million (gasp). But this home was also created at a different time: a time when there was such a thing as a housing market, our money flowed a lot more freely and most of us had many more dollars in our bank accounts. In order to make the second 417 Idea Home appropriate for today’s economic conditions, we are working toward a different goal on round two. “Our approach is affordable and innovative,” says 417 Idea Home project manager Kaye Lee.
This certainly doesn’t mean we are sacrificing luxury, though. Interior Designers Wendie Lemay and Jacqueline Pitts of Brashear’s Furniture (2750 Shepherd of the Hills Expy., Branson, 417-337-5028, brashears.com) are the two interior designers leading the project. They’re working to include items that are stylish, innovative and much more affordable than they appear. “The concept of the house is to have it look like a million dollar home, but it won’t cost that,” Pitts says.
The Look
The two describe the home’s style as being similar to a French chateau, as it has a formal look. The exterior consists mainly of light gray stone, accented with brick. There are wood columns on the backside of the house, which add a rustic touch to the elegance. A covered veranda wraps around one corner of the house, giving residents gorgeous views of the golf course.
The color palette used in the interior décor is very basic: cool grays, silver, black and cream, with black iron and crystal accents. The majority of the home has wood floors, and many areas also feature granite countertops. “There’s going to be a lot of mill work used, too,” Lemay says.
About The Community
This year’s 417 Idea Home is located in Branson Creek. As one of the largest master planned communities in the Midwest, it features more than 6,000 acres of beautiful homes and landscapes.
The development includes two championship golf courses: Branson Creek Golf Club, which was voted the No. 1 rated public golf course in Missouri and one of the top 100 courses to play golf in America by Golf Digest, and Murder Rock Golf and Country Club. It also features 15 miles of hiking trails, six different communities of homes, which include a range of single-family homes, golf villas and estate-sized homes, and one of the highest elevations in Taney County. There is a swimming pool, tennis court, health facilities, a pro shop and two driving ranges for residents to enjoy.
