Interior Designer Stephanie Snadon describes Susan Clements’s taste with three words: extravagant, formal and beautiful. Susan and her husband, Wayne, own this Highland Springs home, and Susan’s taste is displayed throughout every room, starting with the grand staircase, continuing with the hand-painted murals and walls and remaining constant in each room with custom finishes nearly everywhere the eye can see.

Designers at Buxton-Kubik-Dodd spent nearly a year remodeling the home, which was originally a space with pink carpet and black and white tiling. “The house itself had really good bones; it just needed a facelift and to be personalized to [the homeowners’] preferences and tastes,” Interior Designer Joyce Buxton says. Susan’s style most closely resembles a French influence, resulting in a very formal European look, says Buxton.

The homeowners owned most of the furnishings before the remodel, and Buxton says it was the firm’s job to showcase them. Naturally, the pieces fit perfectly into the home’s French style, and Buxton says that Susan stuck with this look throughout the home. “Suzie never wavered in the things that are appealing to her,” she says. “She likes softer colors and more organic lines, and not a lot of hard edges. It’s a pretty sophisticated look.”
