2010 Homes of the Year: More than $1 Million

Located on scenic property in Monett, Mike and Diann Wallace’s Old World-style home proves that even massive spaces can be warm and welcoming.

Sometimes it’s nice to get out of the house and go to the movie theater, play a round of golf, or take a swim. Or if you’re Mike and Diann Wallace, it’s nice to stay in the house and go to the movie theater, or play a round of golf, or take a swim. This is possible for the couple, whose Monett home is fully equipped with a movie theater, a virtual indoor golf range and a double-infinity edge pool, among other things.

Mike, who grew up in Monett, and Diann, who is originally from Purdy, each say this is the home they’ll be in for the rest of their lives. “We knew this was it, so we made sure to include everything,” Mike says of their custom-built home. And they do mean everything. With the help of builder

Arlan Campbell of Arlan Construction and home designer Ron Hill from Euro World Design, the couple created a huge livable dream home.

Mike and Diann worked with Jeris Ferguson of Jeris Ferguson Interiors to create a welcoming feeling in the large space. “The first thing people say when they come in is, ‘You know, it’s so big, but each room feels warm and cozy,’” Diann says.

The exterior is equally beautiful. The Old World look is complete with tumbled stone and 100-year-old brick pavers from the streets of
Chicago, which weigh approximately 10 pounds each. And the landscaping work, completed by Michael Fessenden of Myron Royce Gardens, is enough to take your breath away. The home truly is a dream home, and the couple couldn’t be more grateful. “It’s truly beyond our expectations,” Mike says.

When moving inside, the movie theater and virtual golf range are in the basement, along with a bar, wine cellar and home gym. The main floor is home to the kitchen, living room, hearth room and master suite, and the couple’s two daughters, Lacey and Michaela, have bedrooms and bathrooms on the third floor.
